I had a crazy sales call with a billion-dollar company. Today’s video is My Experience Closing a Deal with a $100M Chinese Subcontractor, watch it by clicking here or continue with this quick read.
Construction is separated into two parts.
- Building, supplying, and doing some construction-related activities.
- Getting paid for it.
We want to help you get better with the money side of construction.
OK, so here’s a story about this crazy shocking phone call I had with a huge company.
This Chinese company supplies facades for skyscrapers.
They told me they have 20-30 contracts across the globe.
I asked them how much each of these projects were.
Each one is about 25 or 30 million dollars.
I started doing the maths and my brain was going crazy with how astronomical these figures were.
When we started talking about the contracts it became clear that they weren’t contractual.
They said they didn’t want to be contractual, they just wanted to maintain good relationships.
They also said that they kept running into design and construction issues.
How it was running was that any changes to the design were being done for free.
There was no limit to the changes.
This business model meant that they were losing a huge amount of money.
It turned out that this size company was just essentially just signing the contracts that were given by the clients.
THEY WEREN’T SUBMITTING NOTICES
The lesson was that REGARDLESS of what you do YOU HAVE TO EMPLOY PEOPLE CONTRACTUALLY.
